About Toronto
Home to approximately six million people, Toronto is Canada's most populous city, and the fourth most populous city in North America. Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Ontario, Toronto is the capital of the province of Ontario, and is one of the most diverse cities in the world, boasting a population of which more than 50% are members of immigrant groups.
What to Do
Toronto is the economic, entertainment, and cultural epicentre of Canada and a major hub in North America. Toronto is home to the CN Tower, which held the title of the world's tallest freestanding structure until 2007, when it was surpassed by Dubai's Burj Khalifa. Situated in the heart of Toronto's entertainment area, visitors to the observation deck will be provided with an unparalleled, unobstructed, 360-degree view of Toronto. In the shadow of the CN Tower is the Rogers Centre, the first stadium in the world to have been equipped with a fully retractable roof. The stadium is the current home of Major League Baseball's Toronto Blue Jays, whose season will coincide with OMUN. Other sports teams in the city include the Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA) and Toronto FC (MLS), all of whose seasons will also coincide with OMUN. Both the hockey and basketball teams play out of the Air Canada Centre, a stone's throw away from the CN Tower.
If tall buildings and sporting events aren't your thing, you can take in one of Toronto's many cultural attractions. Within walking distance of your downtown hotel, you can view fascinating exhibits at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario, take in a show at one of Toronto's many world class theatres, or even go and look at a cross section of the world's aquatic population at the acclaimed Ripley's Aquarium. Accomodations arrangements made by the executive will allow for attending schools to arrive in our city a day early, giving them the greatest possible opportunity to experience our bustling metropolis. That being said, if you'd like to alter the duration of your stay, we'd be pleased to help you out. We will also of course be available to help you with any and all of your other concerns related to both our conference, and our city.
Accommodations
The OMUN secretariat is very pleased to announce that the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel will be the official hotel of OMUN 2016! Offering a special event rate and a prime location in downtown Toronto, we encourage all delegations interested in attending the conference from outside of Toronto to contact us at omun@ucc.on.ca for assistance with accommodations. The special rate on rooms will be offered on the nights of the 15th and 16th of April (with the conference taking place on the 16th and 17th), meaning that visiting delegates will have the entire Friday free to visit one of North America's top cities.
